Yes, your company can afford to pay $15 an hour
Biden is bumping the minimum wage for federal contractors to $15. Denny's claims that raising the minimum to $15 won't hurt its business -- and there is some indication that a higher minimum wage could actually help its business:
“On an earnings call in February, Newsweek reported, Denny's Chief Financial Officer Robert Verostek told investors that the California law raising the minimum wage to $15 by 2023 has actually been good for the diner chain's business.”
Other companies including McDonald's and Domino's have told investors the higher minimum wage would not hurt their business. Hilton CEO Chris Nassetta, a genuine good guy, actually supports the wage hike. "I think we should all assume that the minimum wage is going to be going up over time. In fact, because it needs to."
The federal minimum wage is $7.25. The "sub-minimum" wage for tipped workers is $2.13. These numbers are appalling. Yet the National Restaurant Association, and others, are fighting to keep it that way. This is not sustainable.
