ABOUT DAN

Dan Lyons is a New York Times bestselling author, as well as a screenwriter and journalist. His book, STFU: The Power of Keeping Your Mouth Shut in an Endlessly Noisy World, is a much-needed wake-up call for a world that’s going a little bit nuts due to information overload and constant cacophony. How to cope? Learn how to STFU—literally. Talking less, listening more, and speaking with intention can make you happier, healthier, more successful, and a better parent and partner.

Dan’s memoir, Disrupted: My Misadventure in the Startup Bubble, tells the story of the two years he spent working in a cult-like software startup, and explores the way technology is changing the way we work. Disrupted became an instant bestseller. Dan followed it up with Lab Rats: How Silicon Valley Made Work Miserable for the Rest of Us, a critically acclaimed examination of Silicon Valley corporate culture and the toll it is taking on workers.

Dan spent two seasons writing for HBO’s hit comedy series, Silicon Valley. He also worked as a journalist, writing about technology at Forbes, Fortune and Newsweek, and contributing articles to the New York Times, Wired, and other publications. Dan has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Guardian, NPR and the BBC.

During his tenure at Forbes, Dan built a blog, The Secret Diary of Fake Steve Jobs, that drew an audience of more than a million monthly readers. Dan drew on the blog to create a satirical novel, Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs, which one reviewer compared to the work of Voltaire, Cervantes, and Jonathan Swift.

Dan received a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Bradford College and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at the University of Michigan. His first book, a collection of short stories called The Last Good Man, won the prestigious Associated Writing Programs Award in Short Fiction. Subsequently, Dan received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship and published a novel, Dog Days, a comedic heist story set in Boston’s North End.

Dan and his family live in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
